Rosarito Restaurant – Tapenco

This restaurant located at km 31 just south of Rosarito, Baja Mexico is another must visit.  The menu is extensive from breakfast to dinner. It is littered with game meats and also traditional Mexican plates. There is a little old lady that sits right next to the large oven making fresh tortillas.

Upon sitting down the waiter comes over and asks if you would like fresh salsa made before your eyes.  Just say not hot, mild, or hot. He whips it up right in front of you in a Molcajete.  It is served warm, to touch.

Having been here now 3 times, 2 times for dinner and one time for breakfast.  The first time I ordered the Chile Rellenos. They are made fresh and covered in a ranchero sauce with beans and rice on the side.  Don’t forget the fresh made tortillas, flour.  The second time for breakfast I made the mistake of ordering pancakes. An American tradition. Not the best thing to order at a predominately Mexican restaurant.

And finally the last time for dinner I had the Mexican combination plate #3.  Carne asada, cheese enchilada, and chile relleno.  A lot of food. But all fresh and homemade. Once again all the fresh tortillas you can eat.

Overall this restaurant is a must visit if you are in the area.  They offer a big menu covering all traditional Mexican plates with an assortment of meats like Venison to quail.  Don’t be afraid as all ingredients are fresh and local.

It is all worth the adventure.
